This is an obvious doggy urine and dumping ground, so it should come as no surprise that an ammonia odor can build within this location. Although it is an outdoor odor, the urine smell within grass can last long after the doggy-deed has been done.
Although it is often challenging to find an immediate solution, there exist several household solutions that can help solve this problem. By following the below solutions, you can be sure that the grass within your yard will be free of any urine stench and smelling fresh.
Grass Smell Removal Solutions
1 Locate with Blacklight or Close Watch
If you notice an especially strong ammonia smell coming from the grass within your yard it is usually because your dog it ritualistically targeting the same grassy patch to do his business. The build up of urine in one spot can cause an especially bad smell. You can spot this location over the course of several days of close watch or by visiting your backyard at night with a blacklight.
2 Urine Deodorizing Granules
Once you have found the urine affected locations of your yard you will want to treat it with deodorizing granules. While selecting the deodorizing granule product, make sure it is both environmentally safe and made from natural ingredients. This is important to ensure that it does no toxic harm to the lawn, property or dog.
3 Quarantine & Take Dog To New Area
Once you have spotted the smelly grass patch and treated it with deodorizing granules it is important to section off this part of the yard to limit access. Some dogs naturally develop a habit of peeing within the same area of the yard, and this is a habit that you will need to break. By section off this area you will give the deodorizing granules a chance to do their job in overcoming the ammonia stench.
4 Water Down Spots
As helpful tactic for other areas around the yard, using the hose to water any area that receives a direct hit can be effective at diluting the urine concentration. As a habit, you can watch your dog after letting them out and follow behind with a hose once all business has been completed.
5 Consider the Dog Park
If your are partial to keeping a pristine lawn, you may wish to consider taking your dog to a dog park. Most medium to large cities have at least one dog park This will provide the added benefit of allowing your dog a healthy amount of social interaction with other dogs as well and daily exercise.
6 Don’t Use Baking Soda or Vinegar
When deciding upon a deodorizing solution, it is important to stay away from many tradition solutions used commonly around the home. Both baking soda and white vinegar can do more harm than good. While they may be effective at eliminating the odor within the lawn, they will have the result of killing the very lawn they it is meant to save.

Oftentimes, hosing down the interior of the recycling bin will be enough to wash out the odorous residues and lift away the odors. During this process, be sure to scrub down any especially sticky areas with an old rag. Finalize by pouring out the liquids and leaving the top lid open to air dry any moisture.
Another simple and effective solution is to place the recycling bin within a location of the yard where it is sure to receive a minimum of 8 hours of direct sunlight. Flip the top of the lid open and provide 2-3 days for the UV rays, open space and fresh air to dry out and lift away the odors. If the smell remains after 2-3 days, consider leaving it within the sunshine for another few days until it is left smelling fresh.
This household absorbent powder has been used for generations to minimize and remove smelly situations around the home. Apply to recycling bin by sprinkling it throughout the interior of the bin to make sure that it covers all of the interior walls. Close the lid to the bin and provide several days for the baking soda to slowly work its magic. After 2-3 days, the the powder will have absorbed the majority of the stench and the recycling bin will be smelling at its best.
This household acid can work to cut through the odorous residues that exist within the siding of the recycling bins. Mix a solution of one part white vinegar with eight parts warm water within the interior of the bin. Using a rag, wipe down the smelly residues within the bin allowing the moisture to run into the bottom containing area. Finalize by closing the lid and allowing it to sit for 24-48 hours. Once this time has passed, the vinegar mixture can be poured out of the bin with the lid left open for air drying purposes.
Bleach can work well at breaking down organic bits within the interior of a recycling bin. Mix one part bleach with 10 parts water inside the bottom of the bin. Proceed to dunk a rag within the bleach solution and scrub down the interior. Once all of the residues have been washed away from the siding, proceed to pour out the contents and allow the remaining bleach moisture to evaporate.
If the above solutions have not been effective at eliminating the odor, using an enzyme cleaner to literally eat through the foul residues can work in removing the odors. Pour two cups of enzyme cleaner within a large bowl and proceed to wipe down the interior of the bin with the fluids. Once the entire interior has been scrubbed down with the enzyme solution, proceed to close the lid and allow 24-48 hours for the active enzymes to neutralize the odors.

Oftentimes, deodorizing the fridge only requires finding and removing the stinking food pieces and residues creating the odor. This is best done by removing all of the contents to organize and identify what is fresh and what has gone bad. After performing this task, you will be sure to identify the source of the problem and be able to properly dispose of the contents that have become rotten.
These ingredients do more than work to produce a fresh cup of morning brew. Similar to baking soda, coffee grounds also work well at absorbing unwanted odors from the interior of the refrigerator. Pour coffee grounds on the pan and place the tray within the interior base, ensuring that it is well out of the way of the food inside. The grounds will slowly work to remove the nasty stench of food odor and replace it with the subtle aroma of fresh coffee beans.
In a similar fashion as coffee grounds, the unusual supplement of kitty litter can also work to absorb unwelcome food odors. Pour fresh cat litter on a small tray and place the tray inside the fridge in a back corner where it is unlikely to be disturbed. Over time, the deodorizing powder will help to reduce the built up stench and maintain a fresh smelling refrigerator.
This solution works well for small enclosed spaces that have been affected by rotten food and unfortunate spills. Mix a solution of vanilla extract and water in equal parts within a bowl. Wad up several pieces of newspaper and proceed to lightly dip the newspaper within the solution and stuff the newspaper balls within the enclosed spots. Allow the newspaper to sit for 24 hours as the paper fiber absorbs the odor and replaces it with the subtle scent of vinegar.

The citric acid within lemon juice is the most effective solution against cigarette odor. Create a solution of one part lemon juice with 4 parts water within a bowl. Proceed to dip a small clean hand towel within the solutions and rubbing the formula into the affected areas of the furniture. In furniture containing upholstery, the solution can be poured within a generic spray bottle and sprayed on. As a final step, simply allow 30-45 minutes for the citric acid to do it’s job while it naturally evaporates away.
This spirit has much many more powers than fueling parties. The alcohol within the solution works to neutralize odors on contact and quickly evaporate away. Pour a small amount of vodka within a spray bottle and spray down the affected area of the furniture. When dealing with large flat surfaces, a small clean hand towel can be moistened with vodka and used to wipe down and deodorize the specific piece of furniture.
Using an enzyme spray is both safe and powerful in combating smoke related odors within furniture. This solution is available in pet stores and most large supermarkets. It works by harnessing the active enzymes within the solution to actually eat through the odorous smoke residues within the furniture. After spraying down the cigarette affected piece of furniture, make sure to follow up by wiping down the flat areas with a clean paper towel to spread out the formula and ensure that no surface area is left untouched.
When lemon or lemon juice is not available, citric cleaning product will work nearly as well. Orange TKO is one that can be sprayed onto the cigarette affected piece of furniture to remove all signs of cigarette odors. As a precaution, always make sure that your specific product spray will do no damage to the material of your specific piece of furniture. In short, always make sure that your read the bottle before use.

The faster you act after the accident, the better chances you will have at drawing out the urine and reducing residual odor. As a general rule of thumb, you will want to perform this task within an hour of discovering the incident. It may the middle of the night, but know that it will pay off to handle the problem on the spot.
Next, you will need to dilute the existing urine that was not accessible through blot drying. Pour water on the location of the urine to remoisten the location and proceed to blot dry this with a new towel. Continue this process for two to three times until the towel fail to bring out any urine smelling water.
Once all of the available water has been blot dried from the mattress, you can proceed in pouring a generous amount of enzyme cleaner into the affected portion of the mattress. Allow of the enzyme cleaner to settle in for 6-8 hours and then proceed to blot dry the remaining cleaning solution from the mattress and place it back within use. Using an enzyme cleaner is most effective at deodorizing urine due to the activated enzymes which literally eat through the smelly organics left behind from the urine.

After blot drying the carpeting with old towels, there will almost always remain some level of moisture within the floor fiber and underlying padding. Place an area fan so that it is pointed directly at this location for 24 hours. After this period of time has passed, proceed to feel the carpeting to remaining moisture. If the carpeting still has some level of moisture left in it, continue to run the fan for an additional 24 hours.
If no success has been had from the above solutions in drying the carpeting, a dehumidifier can work to dry of the affect room and ensure that the carpet fiber and underlying padding is completely dry. Since mildew relying on moisture to persist, this machine will also have a hand in lowering some of the odor within the room. For reasons of health, be sure to read instruction in full before running within the household.
If all available methods for removing odors within carpeting have come up short, consider renting an ozone machine for your mildew affected room. The ozone machine will work to suck all oxygen from the room and eliminate any odors. Only run this machine once the carpeting has completely dried and you have run out of options. Additionally, be very careful to read all of the instructions, as improper use can lead to health problems or even death.

Often, simply boiling water within the cast iron pan will do much to remove the odor. Heating the pan will help to release the fish iron for full absorption within the boiling water. Boil the water for 15-20 minutes and toss within the sink refill and begin again until the pan is completely free of fish related odors.
This solution goes to work in extracting and drying up the existing fish oils within the cast iron pan. Provided that the pan is entirely iron, place the pan upside down within the over and heat it at 350 for 30-45 minutes. Heating it upside down will help to open up the iron pores and allow for fish oils to slip out and dry up within the hot environment. If any smell remains after after 3 minutes, place the cast iron pan back within the oven for another 30 minutes at 350 degrees fahrenheit until the smell is removed.
The citric acid within lemon juice will help to clear smelly fish residues from pores within the cast iron. Squeeze 2-3 lemons within the pan and add equal parts of water. Allow this solution to sit for an hour as the citric acid eats away at the fish oils. Next, place the plan over an open flame on the burner for the solution to begin to boil and neutralize any remaining fish-related funk within the pan.
As a final solution, you can try to cover the fishy smell by cooking onions or garlic within the pan. Start by clearing as much fish charred remains and oils from the pan by scrubbing it down with dish detergent within the sink until it is clean. Place olive oil along the top surface and add a fully chopped up onion and garlic clove within the pan. Begin frying the contents and continue to cook until the items have been lightly charred. At this point, the smell of fish within the pan will likely be replaced with the sutile aroma of garlic and onions.

After doing an initial wipedown with a warm wet towel, proceed to fill the dryer a half box full of dryer sheets and several old wet towels. The combination of this high level of dryer sheets with wet towels will yield a much fresher smelling interior within the dryer. The wet towel will repeatedly strip any remaining odorous residues from the interior and the excessive dryer sheets will help to cover any remaining unwelcome smells from the machine.
Once an odor has developed within a dryer, be absolutely certain that you do not place any valuable clothing or linen within the dryer. The hot cycle of the dryer has the potential to open up the clothing faber further and sink in unwanted odors within the stitching that will not be easily removed. No matter how urgent the need to dry, make sure that the dryer has been completely treated before a running for normal use.

The citric acid within lemon juice works well at cutting through challenging odors within a mattress. Mix one part lemon juice with ten parts warm water within and spray bottle. Proceed to spray down all of the affected areas of the mattress with heavy quantities of the mixture ensuring that the solution moderately soaks into the mattress. Allow for the lemon juice solution to set in for 1-2 hours before returning to blot dry the location from moisture.
On short notice, a deodorizing product spray can be used to cover and eliminate minor odors found within mattresses. Products like Glade or Febreze can be used to spray down the mattress surface and provide a 2-3 hours for the product moisture to naturally evaporate away.


Most dishwashers contain traps under the water jets. Within these spaces water can become trapped and turn eventually turn rancid. If this is found to be the cause you will want to remove the foul smelling liquids from these areas and clean these areas thoroughly to remove any unpleasant residue.
