We’ve all had that crazy friend who always drank too many beers. These barely controllable alcoholics are susceptible to poor motor control and passing out with beverages in hand. In the process, a beer can be spilled and quickly spoil within the upholstery and cushioning of a couch.
Though success in removing beer odors depend largely upon circumstance, there do exist several household ingredients that have been proven successful in treating this stench. By following the below solutions, you can lift the beer residues from your couch to leave it smelling fresh.

Beer Smell Removal Solutions
1 Act Fast
As soon as a beer has been spilled it is important to act fast. You will want to try to remove the beer odor within the first 3-6 hours that it has contacted the couch while the scent of alcoholic beverage is very low. After 24-48 hours, the beer can spoil and develop into a rather awful stench that can be a challenge to clean and deodorize.
2 Blot, Water Down & Blot
As your first official action you will want to lift the affected cushions from the couch and move them to a clean surface outside for treatment. This will ensure that the beer does not make its way within the crack or creases of the couch. Next, you will need to blot dry the cushion with dry clean towel. 3 White Vinegar Mixture

Mix one part white vinegar with six part warm water and pour the solution over the affected spot. You will want to make sure that the upholstery and cushioning affected by the beer is engulfed in the mixture. Allow it to sit for 6-8 hours before returning to blot dry the white vinegar solution out of the cushion.
4 Enzyme Soak
As an alternative solution, using leather safe enzyme cleaning solution can work even better in literally eating through the beer residues within the couch. After you have watered the spot down and blot dried, you will want to soak the location in enzyme cleaner and allow it to sit for 24 to 48 hours. During this time the active enzymes will work their magic to eliminate the odorous beer residue within the couch. After this time period has passed, simply return to blot dry the cushion before putting back within use.
5 Baking Soda Zipped In
In cases where that couch cushion cover has a zipper opening built in, baking soda can help to absorb remaining beer odors and help to ward off future smells from developing. Within each cushion sprinkle in a half cup of baking soda and proceed to zip the cushion closed. After application, go back to using the couch as you normally would and allow the baking soda to maintain freshness.

Using an enzyme product spray is undoubtedly the most effective solution for removing the odorous dander and residues left within your couch. These sprays are especially engineered to remove cat odors and harness the power of active enzyme to literally eat through your cat’s smelly organic materials. Spray down the entire couch so that all areas are hit, and allow the solution to naturally air dry off over the next 6-8 hours.
Although it sounds simplistic, a bit of sunshine and fresh air are often enough to lift away any cat related odor. The open space, fresh air and UV rays work to combat the residues and neutralize them on the spot. Wait for a sunny day and move your couch outside into direct sunlight within the morning. Make sure it is placed within a location of your yard where it will receive a minimum of 8 hour of direct sunlight throughout the day. If the smell persists after a day in the sun. you can try a second or third day for better results.
The use of the party drink to combat odors has been in practice for several generations. Pour vodka within a generic spray bottle and proceed to mist down the entire affected area of the couch. The alcohol has the unique capability of neutralizing smelly residues on contact and proceeding to evaporate odorously away within 30-45 minutes.
This solution works within a similar way as vodka by utilizing alcohol to neutralize odorous residues on the spot. Mix a solution of one part rubbing alcohol with five parts water and proceed to spray down the affected area of the couch. Allow 3-4 hours for the solution to evaporate away.
This solution harnesses the power citric acid has in cutting through difficult odors. Mix a solution of one part lemon juice with eight parts water within a spray bottle and mist down all cat affected areas within the couch. Open the windows and provide 2-3 hours for the mixture to evaporate before putting the couch back into use.
There are several household deodorizing sprays that can be effective for mild cat related odors within the couch. Products like Febreze and Glade can work to cover and neutralize mild feline odors within the couch. Simply spray down the affected area and provide approximately 30-60 minutes for the product solution to evaporate away.



If the vomit has only affected the cushion you will want to carefully remove them from the couch and place them on a clean surface outside. This will ensure that any unwelcome residues do not make their way within the couch’s fiber. The following steps are suggested whether you are cleaning the cushion outside or areas of the couch frame indoors.
Using a concoction of one teaspoon of shampoo to three cups of hot water will help to further loosen any remaining residues and draw them out of the upholstery and couch cushioning. Once you have performed the above steps, proceed to pour enzyme cleaner on the affected areas of the couch and provide 24 hours for the solution to work it’s magic. Once a day has passed, blot dry the areas of application and provide 24-48 for them to air dry. When treating a leather couch, be absolutely sure not to use an enzyme cleaner. This substance can cause a negative reaction when applied to this natural fiber.


Once an accident happens, it is important to take immediate action in cleaning it up. If ignored the urine can often make its way through the cushion or into the cracks making this problem much more challenging to remedy. Remove the affected cushions as soon as possible and temporarily place them outside for cleaning.
To speed air drying process, place cushion outside on the grass within the sun for a dry. Take measures to prop the cushion to allow for ventilation on both sides. As an added benefit, the chlorophyl from the grass, UV rays and fresh air will all work to freshen the cushion.

As a first step, the cushion must be removed from the couch. If the cushion is not removed it time, there is a chance that the urine can drip down into the cracks and be much more challenging to treat.
Measure a half gallon of warm water and pour half of the liquid on the spot of the accident. Blot this location up, and then pour the second half of the water on the spot and repeat. This will help in diluting the amount of urine which is left within the cushion.
