Pillows are used nightly and serve as an absorbent of slobber and scalp oils in the process. Taking this nightly build-up of bodily excretions into account, it should come as no surprise when pillows begin to smell.
Although freshening the pillow may appear to be a lost cause, there exist several household solutions for deodorizing pillows. By applying some of the below solutions, you can effectively remove the pillow stench and have it smelling like new.
Pillow Smell Removal Solutions
1 Light Tumble Dry + Fabric Softening Sheets
As fast solution for lighter odors, the smelly pillow and fabric softener sheets can be be placed within the dryer. For best results, place at least 4-6 fabric softening sheets in within the dryer and run on the lightest setting for 20-30 minutes. This solution only works with synthetic and is not recommended for feather pillows.
2 Baking Soda Within Pillow Case
As another solution for minor odors, baking soda can be sprinkle within the pillow case. To perform this solution, measure a quarter cup f baking soda and lightly sprinkle the ingredients into the pillow case on both sides. Proceed to shut the opening of the pillow cases and give it a good shake to evenly disperse the deodorizing powder through the inside of the pillow. Performing this task once a week should have a freshening effect of the underlying pillow.
3 Use Enzyme Spray
This solution works by applying active enzymes that eat through much of the odorous organics embedded within your pillow. Begin this solution by removing the pillowcase and proceeding to spray down the pillow with enzyme cleaning spray from all directions. Finish by taking the pillow outside and hanging it within direct sunlight until it is completely dried.
4 Deodorizing Detergent Wash (Only Synthetic)
Check your pillow’s tag to see if it can be placed within the machine machine and dryer. If it is synthetic, there is a good chance that you will be able to put the pillow through an entire laundry cycle. Although regular detergent will work, it may be a good idea to run the use a specialty detergent that is engineered to specifically combat odors. Be sure to follow the limitations set by the pillow’s tag as they can often require delicate washer and dryer settings.
5 If Old, Buy a New Pillow
If the pillow is more than a year old, you may want to consider just buying a new one. Pillows are rather inexpensive and are an item that you use nightly. A ten dollar purchase of a new pillow may be an investment that will pay off in the end.

Often, all that is required to deodorize the interior of a protein shaker is to soak it within a mixture of dish detergent and hot water. Plug your sink, fill it partially up with hot water and squeeze out 2-3 teaspoons of dish detergent within the water. Give the mixture and good stir and then place the parts to you protein shaker within the soapy bath. Allow the protein shaker to soak for 1-2 hours before returning to scrub any residues away and rinse it off.
If the soaking the protein shaker within hot water and dish detergent has not been effective, using baking soda can have a much larger impact. Scoop 2-3 teaspoon of baking soda into the protein shaker and fill the remaining space with hot water. Proceed to shake the protein shaker vigorously for 3-5 minutes, and then place it on the counter to sit for another hour. After this time has passed, the contents can be poured out and the freshened protein shaker can be rinsed out.
In a similar method to baking soda, the household ingredient of white vinegar can work well at slicing though any residual protein shake odor. Mix a solution of one part white vinegar to the parts hot water. Proceed to close the lid and give the container a good shake for 2-4 minutes before placing on the counter for another 40-60 minutes. Upon completion, the vinegar contents can be poured and rinsed out to deliver deodorizing results within the protein shaker.
The alcohol content within vodka surprisingly has a deodorizing effect and can dry away odorlessly. Measure two shots of this party drink and pour them within the protein shaker. Proceed to shake the protein shaker for a subsequent 10-15 minutes. Next, pour the vodka out and give the fresh smelling protein shaker a thorough rinse within the sink.
Just like vodka, rubbing alcohol is able to eliminate food-based odor through it’s extremely high alcohol content. Mix a solution of one part rubbing alcohol and four part warm water within the shaker. Seal the lid and give it a healthy shake for 2-4 minutes before setting the shaker down to rest for an hour. After this time has passed, the contents can be pour out and the shaker can be rinsed clean.

This solution can work well in wiping out odor within light colored pillowcases. Mix a solution of one part hydrogen peroxide with four parts warm water and dunk the affected pillow cases within the formula. Allow the pillowcases to soak for an entire hour before removing the and placing them through a detergent washing machine cycle.
This solution is highly effective in deodorizing bad odors within white pillow cases. The bleach goes to work in breaking down any smelly residues that may be infused within the linen fiber and leaves it smelling fresh. Begin a normal detergent wash cycle of your white pillow cases and add in a full cup of bleach within the mixture once the water has filled in within the machine.
Air drying the pillowcases outside within the sun can have an enhanced deodorizing effect over drying the linen pillowcases within the drying machine. The fresh air and open space work to lift away any residual smells while the UV rays of the sun neutralize any remaining odorous residues on contact.

Using cat litter on shoes may sound silly, but the odor absorbent power of this granule material can be very effective at pulling in difficult foot odors. Begin by hosing any dirt or brie off you Keen sandals, and placing them on a cookie tray. Next fill the interior of the sandals with cat litter to allow for maximum absorption of the odors. Allow the cat litter to work it’s magic over the course of 24-48 hours before removing the deodorizing granules and putting the freshened hiking sandals back within use.
If the odor within the Keen sandals is especially foul, enzyme cleaning solution can be used to help deodorize the sandals. You can begin by pouring a small amount of the enzyme solution within a kitchen bowl. Proceed to dunk a household rag within the cleaner and go to work in scrubbing the areas where your foot normally comes into contact with the sandals. After they have been thoroughly scrubbed, fill a large rectangular glass container half full with a solution of water and enzyme cleaner mix in equal parts. Next, place the sandals upside down within the solution and allow the enzyme cleaner to go to work in deodorizing the Keens over the course of the 6-8 hours. Upon completion, finish the deodorizing process by placing the Keens outside within the sun to properly dry off.
If you have the time, using activated charcoal to deodorize Keen sandals can be effective. Begin by cutting an old pair of nylon leggings in half and stuffing 3-4 activated charcoal briquettes within the ends of each legging. Next, you will want to tie a knot to enclose them within each of the nylon leggings and place them over the area on each sandal where the foot normally comes into contact. Proceed to then place the sandals and nylon enclosed activated charcoal within a enclosed cardboard box and allow them to doedorize for 5-7 days before removing the freshened Keens for use.

Often all that is needed to remove an odor within a piano is to republish the instrument. Aggregated dust can build within the surface of the piano and a simple polish with a soft cloth can help to gentiles lift away any musty buildup that may be resting on the piano. It important to first try gentile solutions that will not harm the pianos finish before moving into solutions that contain stronger chemicals.

This product solution utilizes similar chemical compounds as hydrogen peroxide and works well in freshening clothing like smelly jerseys. Mix a solution of Oxiclean within a bucket and submerge you stinky jersey within the product formula for 40-60 minutes. Since this product solution does share some similar compound with hydrogen peroxide it may be a good idea to shorten the soaking time with dark jersey colors. After soaking, you can finish by placing the freshened jersey through an entire wash cycle.

This may seem to good to be true, but simply running the pickle jar through the dishwasher will often be enough to eliminate the pickle smell. The extremely hot water and dish detergent work in tandem to initially expand the glass jar and allow the detergent to cut through the residues.
In a similar function to white vinegar, the acid within lemon juice will work to cut through the pickle odor within the jars. Squeeze the juice for a whole lemon within the jar and then place the crushed remains of the lemon within the jar. Next, fill the jar to the rim with very hot water and seal the lid. Again, allow the jar to sit for a minimum of 24 hours as the hot water expands the jar and the citric acid deodorizes the jar’s interior.

If your boxing gloves have an especially challenging odor, fabric softener sheets and newspaper can be used in tandem as a deodorizing solution. Begin by stuffing two fabric softener sheets within each of the gloves. Follow this action by wadding up several sheets of newspaper and stuffing them within the entire of each glove until no further space is available. Simply let these content rest within the gloves over night and remove them before the using the gloves within the future. The newspaper will work to absorb the moisture and smell while the fabric softener will impart a gentle flora effect.
Another tried and true solution for removing odors from boxing gloves is through the use of cedar chips. Although socks vary in size, you can safely fill up two different normal size socks with cedar chips, making sure to tie a knot at the end to keep the cedar chips from falling out. Upon making these cedar chip deodorizer sack, you will want to use them after every use of the boxing gloves. For best results, you can leave the deodorizing inserts within the gloves until you need to use them again.
As a final deodorizing solution, the boxing gloves can be places outside on a back patio or terrace to allow the gloves to properly air out and let the smelly sweat dry within them. As a general rule of thumb, boxing gloves will take somewhere between 24-48 to have the worst of the smelly residues dry out.
The practice of wearing hand wraps within your gloves will do much to cut down on the amount of sweat that makes it’s way within the gloves. Less sweat within the gloves translates directly to less odor from developing. Hand wraps can easily be placed through the washing machine and can save you much time and effort spent in deodorizing your gloves.
If you do find odors building within your gloves, it will be important that you treat the gloves regularly with one of the above solutions. If they are not treated for too long of a period the smell can intensify into an unworldly stench that can be extremely difficult to remove.


Unfold a wired coat hanger and bend it until it becomes completely straight. Once performed, fold the wire hanger within the middle so that the hanger can do a better job of holding up. Next, make a hook out of the wire’s end and wrap several paper towels around the hook. Dip the paper towels within a solution of rubbing alcohol and proceed to stick the paper towel cover hook down the mouth hole of the bong. You will need to push and pull the wire out so the paper towel can clean and santitize the interior of the bong’s neck. Once you have removed much of the visanle residues from the bongs neck you can proceed to one of the deodorizing solutions below.
