It may sound fruitless, but hanging your jacket outside in the sun can do wonders in removing residual cigarette smoke odors.  By placing your jacket on a clothes line for 24-48 hours, the light breeze and UV rays will naturally sweep the smokey smell away.

2 Febreze

This product works miracles in short periods of time.  Simply spray jacket down and lightly rub moisture within fiber.  Hang the jacket up to dry for 10-20 minutes and as the moisture evaporates much of the odor will be lifted off.

3 Vodka

4 Clothing Softener

You can still use your dryer, even if the washer is off-limits for cleaning your jacket.  Place 3-4 sheets of clothing softener in dry with jacket, and turn on high to ensure that all of the chemical compounds are release from the deodorizing sheets.  Run for only dry for 5-10 minutes, as drying for any longer could lead to shrinking of the clothing.

5 White Vinegar

Talk to any mother, and she will tell you that white vinegar is a fantastic solution for wiping out odors.  Spray entire jacket down with this chemical before hanging it outside to air dry in the sun.  Allow 3-4 hours for moisture to evaporate, leaving your jacket odor-free.

6 Borax & Baking Soda

Borax and baking soda are both wonderful powder based solutions for removing household odors.  Place your smoke infested jacket within a remote corner of your household and sprinkle these compound in equal quantities on top of the jacket.  After 24-48 hours return to shake off the powder from your freshened jacket and vacuum up remaining powder from the flooring.

7 Activated Charcoal

This substance works by sucking in odors within close proximity of the briquets.  Start by placing several briquets withing an old pair of nylon leggings.  This is to ensure that the dark substance does not rub off on your jacket.  Next, place the jacket and nylon enclosed activated charcoal within an sealed trash bag, and leave the content to sit for 5-7 days.  After this time, you can remove your freshened jacket and add it back within your wardrobe cycle.

8 Dry Cleaning

When everything else has failed, you may wish to consider taking it to the dry cleaners.  Though costly, this option saves time and ensures that the clothing be cleaned and returned odor-free.
