How to Get Fish Smell Out of Hair

While cooking fish, people are often surprised when the smell gets within their hair.  The fishy stench can be quite strong and is not easy to remove.

In this guide, there are several kitchen solutions for removing this odor from your hair.  By following the below tips, you will be able to free your follicles from this fishy smell.

Traditional Deodorizing Fish Solution

1 Rinse and Repeat

Usually, washing your hair is enough to free your hair of this odor.  When it is not enough, try washing your  hair a second or third time until the smell goes away.

Kitchen Ingredient Deodorizing Solutions

When washing your hair is not enough, this odor can be removed with several ingredients found within your kitchen.  It seems fitting that if your kitchen delivered this odor upon you, it should also provide solutions for removing it.

1 Baking Soda

Mix a paste of water and baking soda in equal parts.  Take this formula into the shower, and work this mixture into your hair.  Allow for 3-4 minutes for it to set before washing the mixture out from your roots.

2 Apple Cider Vinegar

Develop a shower-based solution of apple cider vinegar and shampoo in equal parts.  Work formula within hair, let sit for 3-5 minutes before rinsing out.  Continue by washing hair a second time with only shampoo.

3 Lemon Juice

Run lemon juice within hair and let soak in.  After ten minutes, go into shower to shampoo hair to remove any remaining lemon juice residue from hair.

4 Vodka

Pour vodka within a spray bottle, and spray within hair.  Vodka has long been a household solution of odor elimination, and works by carrying off the fishy stench when the alcohol evaporates.  This solution works anywhere and requires no washing of hair.

5 Coconut Oil

Work coconut oil within hair and let sit for for a minimum of ten minutes.  Afterwards, wash oil from hair with shampoo to remove any remaining coconut oil residue.
